We would like to thank Laura K. Wiley PhD and Michael G. Kahn MD PhD from the University of Colorado for their proposed definitions in the 'Clinical Data Science Specialization' introduction course on Coursera.

Clinical data science
Using the data generated by healthcare providers and health systems to create knowledge and improve the care of future patients. The CDSRG aims to drive this through innovation, research and education, and bring intelligent technologies across the bench-bedside divide. Key to this is clinical adoption.

Biomedical data science
This area spans everything from biological systems to population health. Analysis may involve anything from genomic sequencing to communicable disease tracking.

Healthcare data science
Healthcare data science is often associated with the business of Health and operational delivery rather individual patient care.

Health data science
Health data science is not well defined but could be considered that area truly focussed on health rather sickness. It encompasses fitness and sleep trackers, mindfulness and other wellness data.
